Beauty education at Walla Walla Community College is an exciting and popular choice for those considering careers in the beauty and cosmetology fields. WWCC offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Cosmetology, along with four certificates: Cosmetology, Cosmetology Instructor, Esthetics, and Nail Technician. With these diverse options, students are able to gain the necessary knowledge and technical skills to become successful professionals in the beauty industry. The Cosmetology Program offers a comprehensive curriculum that combines theory and practical training. The program focuses both on the artistic side of styling hair, makeup, and nails, as well as on the business side of owning and operating a salon, such as customer service, finance, and human resources. Additionally, students will learn sanitation and safety, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and trichology. Upon completing their studies, they will be prepared to take the Washington State Cosmetology Exam and pursue salon and spa licensure. In addition to the Cosmetology Program, the college also offers three specialized certificates. The Cosmetology Instructor Certificate prepares students for teaching in cosmetology schools or salons, the Esthetics Certificate covers facials, manicures, pedicures, and waxing, and the Nail Technician Certificate focuses on various techniques for nails, from manicures to pedicures and artificial nails. Also available is the Advanced Studies in Cosmetology course which serves as an additional 600 hours in the program. This course explores advanced topics across various disciplines, such as facial treatments, hair color and lightening, scalp treatments, scalp massage, eyebrow perfecting and eyelash extensions.
